“A teacher effects eternity; he can never tell where his influence will stop” – Henry Adams.
Leaving the teaching profession after 29 years was an incredibly hard decision to take and I have no regrets about working in the 5 schools I worked in over those years. I had the privilege of working with some very talented teachers who I know have left lasting legacies on the pupils that came their way.
But it has also led me to return to some of the teachers who influenced me as a child and when they taught that complicated 11 -16 year old, how they could not have anticipated the impact that they had on me. In reuniting with 3 of these teachers in this last year, it has inspired me to thank them for their belief in me and I hope that it might inspire you to reach out and say thank you too.
One of these teachers was a Maths teacher – who knew I was not naturally adept in this subject but made us roar with laughter! One was an Art teacher who was the most compassionate and caring, gentleman. And the final one was who I address my letter too, Miss Hawley (Edith).
The other letters are written by some of my friends (who aspire to be writers) and who felt they wanted to say thank you.
Hope you find it an interesting read and I would love to hear about your favourite teachers.
