Hi, I’m Holly, the marketing and office support assistant here at Claire’s! I have worked here for almost a year now, I can’t believe how fast it’s gone! Carrying on with our ‘A Day in the Life of a…’ series, I have put together this blog post to talk all things marketing, and to hopefully provide an insight into what it’s really like to work in the industry. I hope you enjoy!

So, for anyone who doesn’t know, what is a marketer?

A marketer is someone who works closely with social media to promote a business or product. This role is also known as a digital marketer or content creator. Specifically, my role as a marketer focuses on promoting our business on our social media and creating job advertisements (whether they be in print or online) to help recruit more staff for our business.

What does a typical morning look like for you? What time do you wake up and what time do you arrive to work?

My alarm goes off at 6:50, then I head downstairs to make breakfast. I then get dressed, make my lunch and leave the house at around 8:10. It’s only a ten minute drive to work, but I try to leave early in the hopes of avoiding the bus on my way haha!

I arrive at the office for 8:30 every morning, grab myself a glass of water and log in to my computer. I then have a look over my to-do list to get familiar with what needs to be done that day.

What is the first thing you do when arriving at work?

When I arrive, I log into my computer and grab a drink. The very first thing I do is check my emails. Then, I check to see whether any messages have come through on our social media platforms overnight, and look to see how yesterday’s post did and whether there are any comments that need responding to.

What are some of your daily tasks?

Most of my daily tasks change every day as I tend to focus on different platforms on different days. Some tasks that are continuous throughout my week would be checking/responding to any new messages on Facebook and Instagram; checking/responding to my emails; creating a post for our Instagram and Facebook; and checking whether any new job applications have come through. Some other weekly tasks would be posting job posts on our website and social media as and when they come through; creating and posting LinkedIn posts; checking on the performance of our Google Ads; creating a new TikTok post/posting the next video in our series; and creating the Tip of the Week and Friday’s Wellness post.

What is your work environment like?

Friendly and fun. Everybody’s always smiling! We have a lovely team who are always looking out for each other and always make each other laugh! Our office is a very pretty place to work, so many fairy lights and so much pink!

What got you into marketing?

I have always enjoyed being creative and ran a few different social media accounts which I really enjoyed creating for. I took Media Studies as one of my GCSEs and loved it! During my A-Levels everyone was always asking, ‘What are you going to do next?’ and I had absolutely no idea. I don’t think anyone really knows what they want to do after school. But I realised I loved being creative and making things. I did some work experience here at Claire’s which I really enjoyed, and then I was lucky enough to be offered this job!

What is your favourite thing about being a marketer and what is your favourite thing about your job at Claire’s?

My favourite thing about being a marketer is the opportunity to be creative and develop my skills every day. I love posting online and connecting with lots of different people. And my favourite thing about working at Claire’s is the people I work with! They’re amazing and have provided me with a friendly environment in which I have grown.
